The North Holland semi-hard cheese with garden herbs with a best-before date of June 2, 2022 from the company Frischkonzept Service based near Mönchengladbach is affected.

The cheese is sold in branches of the Netto Marken Discount Stiftung.

Net recall: How does the egg even get into the Dutch Gouda?

For reasons of "preventive consumer protection", fresh concept service is starting a nationwide recall.

The official statement states: "After checking, it turned out that the preservative lysozyme, which contains the allergen egg, was not declared."

So, there are traces of egg in the cheese – and that can cause breathing difficulties, gastrointestinal distress, and in some cases, anaphylaxis for allergy sufferers.

Time and again it happens that preservatives in cheeses are not adequately labelled.

Consumption of Gouda with garden herbs is harmless for people without allergies.
