The hot breath of
Hannibal
, an African anticyclone, will still cloak much of the central-western Mediterranean with the heat at least until Monday 23. As reported by the forecasts of the website www.ilmeteo.it, some records in Italy have already been beaten, including
the hottest night in Bolzano since 1956
.
The situation, over the weekend, could get worse and
temperatures could
reach 35 ° C
, also accompanied by a high level of humidity.
In some areas, especially in the North-West and in Sardinia, the May records recorded so far could be surpassed, standing at around 33-34 °.
The mix of heat and humidity will create
a dangerous phase
from this afternoon until Monday, but probably afterwards showers will arrive to mitigate the great heat.
At least in Northern Italy, because in the Center and in the South, on the other hand, Hannibal could lead to a further increase in temperatures.
Meanwhile there is damage to the environment.
This phenomenon, together with the absence of rainfall, is intensifying the historical drought in the North: the level of the Po has been on average for weeks in August and not even the rains at the beginning of May have alleviated the situation.
Even the most fragile population will suffer from the unusual temperatures: the first heat wave, in fact, is
the most dangerous.
