Economists call for a further increase in the retirement age in Germany.
So the end of life moves further and further away.
Munich – More time for hobbies and family – that is the dream of many people who are about to retire.
Currently, the highest retirement age in Germany is 67 years and applies to all citizens who were born in 1964 or later.
However, due to high inflation, economists are now calling for a further increase in the retirement age.
Does the end of life only threaten at the age of 70?

“The retirement age must rise.
Germany already has a huge problem with skilled workers, hundreds of thousands of jobs are unfilled,” is the assessment of economist Prof. Gunther Schnabl to “Bild”.
His prognosis is bleak.
Because the consequence of this would be that wages would have to rise in the next few years.
This in turn would mean that goods and services would also become much more expensive.
Prof. Stefan Kooths, Vice President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, takes a similar view.
He gives the "Bild" several reasons why there could be an increasing threat to price stability in the next few years: the mix of an aging society, high levels of debt and the energy transition.
In addition, more and more pensioners – after all, more and more contributors are claiming their pension at 63 – are faced with fewer and fewer employees.
This could eventually lead to further price increases.

Retirement from 70?
Many diseases often only appear in old age
With a later retirement, the dilemma could be defuse significantly.
After all, we live longer on average than previous generations, according to a popular argument.
At the same time, does that mean that people of this advanced age are still fit and able to work?
That could be true for a majority of people.
Nevertheless, there are many diseases that occur more frequently with advancing age, such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson's disease or arthritis.
Depending on the illness, this can make both physical and mental work impossible.
