Paderborn on Friday evening.
A strong wind whips through the city, some people seek shelter in a bus stop.
The storm is so strong that whole trees are thrown through the air.
The low pressure area "Emmelinde" hit the cities of Lippstadt and Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia in particular on Friday evening with full force.
According to the police, 43 people were injured in Paderborn alone, 13 of them seriously.
The police asked the population on Saturday morning to avoid the devastated city center for the time being and warned of possible dangers from storm damage.
The German Weather Service reported precipitation of up to 40 liters per square meter and confirmed three suspected tornado cases, one of them in Lippstadt.
Local residents also filmed the devastation here.
Apparently there were no injuries.
"Emmelinde" also caused property damage and injuries in other parts of the country.
In Rhineland-Palatinate, a 38-year-old man died on Friday evening in Wittgert in the Westerwald after suffering an electric shock and falling in a flooded basement.
On Saturday, the thunderstorm should move eastwards over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Before that there may be gusts of wind.
A few thunderstorms are still to be expected in the south.
