The presenters of the main Afghan TV stations aired today by covering their faces, one day after defying the order of the Taliban to hide their appearance and submit to the Islamic vision.
Today the journalists wore the burqa with only their eyes visible to present the news on TOLOnews, Ariana Television, Shamshad TV and 1TV.
"We resisted and opposed the use of the full veil," said Sonia Niazi, presenter of TOLOnews.
"But the broadcaster came under pressure, they said that any presenter who appeared on the screen without covering her face would be given another job," she added.
For his part, Mohammad Sadeq Akif Mohajir, spokesman for the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, stated that the authorities have no intention of forcing the presenters to leave their jobs: "We are happy that the channels have correctly exercised their their responsibility, "he said.
Since returning to power last year, the Taliban have imposed a number of restrictions on civil society, many of them aimed at limiting women's rights.
Earlier this month, the Taliban supreme leader issued an order that women must cover themselves completely in public, including their faces in the traditional burqa.
Previously, a scarf covering the hair was sufficient.
Afghanistan's Ministry of Virtue Promotion and Vice Prevention had ordered broadcasters to comply by Saturday.
