(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 22 - Yesterday evening around 20 in Spinello, a hamlet of Santa Sofia in the province of Forlì-Cesena, two pensioners aged 55, he, and 57, she, were found lifeless in the bedroom of their home, shot dead.

The local carabinieri, together with colleagues from the Meldola operational and mobile unit, intervened together with the firefighters.

To give the alarm to the children, who had not been able to hear from them for a couple of days.

A first hypothesis of the investigators is that it was a murder-suicide.

The local press reports.

Their names were Paolo Neri and Stefania Platania, respectively 67 and 65 years old, unlike what we learned previously, the two spouses found dead last night in Spinello di Santa Sofia, a small village in the Forlì Apennines.

The two, it was learned, were former employees of the Senate, retired.

The carabinieri of Meldola investigate their death, which occurred after an initial reconstruction by gunshots.

The prevailing hypothesis is that of a homicide-suicide.

"We are not used to facts like this."

So Daniele Valbonesi, mayor of Santa Sofia, about the discovery of the two spouses who died last night in the hamlet of Spinello, in the upper Forlì Apennines.

"I did not know them personally but I know that they were not resident in Santa Sofia, they were in the past, and now they had a second home here for several years," he told ANSA.

The same one in which the carabinieri and firefighters had to force the lock last night, according to what they learned, to enter, after the children of the two pensioners had not had news for a couple of days.

"I talked to some neighbors - adds the mayor - but so far nothing strange has emerged" that could suggest the extreme gesture of the two.

The hypothesis of the investigators is that it was a homicide-suicide.

Investigations are ongoing.

Paolo Neri and Stefania Platania, the two retired spouses found dead last night in the Forlì Apennines, both allegedly killed each other.

According to information, the two bodies were found on the bed.

Fatal, for both of them, would have been a shot in the mouth.

Beside the bodies two pistols, regularly held.

On the reasons for the double gesture, the shadow of a sect appears: in the bedroom a letter would be found that the two would write to their children, in which they belonged to a group that heralded the imminent end of the world.

The Meldola carabinieri investigate the case.
