Following the two doses of AstraZeneca's vaccine or another approved one such as Pfizer, healthcare professionals now have the option of using AstraZeneca's vaccine in the European Union for a third dose.

The European Medicines Agency had given this authorization on Thursday “after a sufficient body of evidence demonstrating an increase in the immune response after a third dose of Vaxzevria (the AstraZeneca vaccine).

"The threat of Covid-19 is receding"

The pharmaceutical giant saw its sales jump in the first quarter, in particular thanks to drugs or vaccines linked to Covid-19, but said it expected a sharp drop in sales of these drugs over the rest of the year as "the threat of Covid-19 is receding”.

The vaccine created in collaboration with the University of Oxford was not chosen by the British government for its recall campaign although it had been one of the first on the market and had been favored for campaign of the first two doses in the UK and it is not approved in the US.

“Vaxzevria is estimated to have helped prevent 50 million cases of Covid-19, five million hospitalizations and saved more than one million lives worldwide, based on model results assessing Covid-19 around the world entire,” according to the lab.
