Today, Damascus University honored 60 distinguished professors and students who published their research and studies in reputable global databases in various disciplines for the year 2021.
The President of the University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, stressed during the honoring that was held at the university’s auditorium that a series of measures were taken during the last period that contributed to a qualitative leap in the scientific research process, culminating in the publication of more than 457 external scientific research during the year 2021, through the policy of incentives that it pursued. The university has created many awards.
Al-Jabban drew attention to the preparations for the opening of the International Publishing Empowerment Unit in order to assist researchers and graduate students in preparing their research and securing the ability to publish externally, as well as creating a patent office in it.
Vice President of the University for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Muhammad Firas Hennawi, indicated that external publication in international refereed scientific journals with internationally recognized standards increases the improvement of the university’s global classification because it enables researchers in other universities to view the university’s research and prompts them to cite these researches, explaining that The honor was based on several indicators, the first of which is the importance of the magazine, the importance of the published research, and the percentage of its contribution to raising the university’s name globally. An indicator was added to it by expatriate Syrians who proved the name of Damascus University in their research.
The Director of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies at the University, Dr. Ghaith Raqouzak, spoke about the reality of external publishing for the year 2021 and the work of the Directorate of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, as well as the international standards adopted in external publication and future directions for scientific research and graduate studies, pointing out that the number of research completed during the year 2021 reached 909 researches in my degree Masters and Ph.D.
The Director of Academic Programs Department at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, Dr. Shadi Al-Azma, gave a presentation on the importance of external publishing, the role of scientific research and its impact on economic growth, and the classification of international journals within the Scopus database, one of the most important and largest databases for the classification of scientific journals, stressing the need to focus on scientific research and high publishing. Quality to raise the university’s classification and create a technical support unit at the university level to spread the culture of qualitative research among graduate students and provide all kinds of support for students wishing to publish in international refereed journals and provide rewards to publishers in journals with advanced classification.
