Even if the PC was more expensive, it can be written off in full in the year of purchase.

What employees should also consider when filing their tax return.

If you have

purchased a computer, accessories or appropriate software for work , you can also state the costs in your

income tax

return as an employee

- as part of the income-related

expenses

(Annex N, lines 41, 42).

In addition, digital assets such as

computers or software

can now be

written off in full

in the year of purchase

, as reported by the German Press Agency (dpa).

So even if the device cost more than 800 euros.

According to the report, this limit has not been applicable to purchases of computers and the like since 2021.

This means that even high-priced devices are no longer subject to three-year depreciation.

Entrepreneurs could recognize corresponding expenses as operating expenses.

Also deduct other work equipment from the tax

As an employee, you can also claim other

work equipment

as part of the income-

related expenses

, as well as the purchased office chair or desk.

Here, however, a single item should not cost more than 800 euros net for the direct deduction, as dpa further wrote.

Employee lump sum increased by 200 euros

There is other good news for employees: as part of the Tax Relief Act, the Bundestag decided on May 12 that the

employee allowance

for income tax will be increased by EUR 200

to EUR 1,200, retrospectively from January 1, 2022

.

If the taxable income could previously be reduced by EUR 1,000, it will be EUR 1,200 in the future.

This benefits employees who file a tax return.

Deadline for filing tax returns extended

The Bundestag decided on another measure on May 19: Taxpayers will

have more time to submit their tax returns.

Those who make their

declaration for 2021

alone can take their time until

 the end of October 2022

 .

If you have a tax consultant, you don't even have to hand it in until the end of August 2023

.

There are also longer deadlines in the coming years.
