Fans and showers have been running on the farms to help the cows cope with the off-season heat.

Coldiretti makes it known about the effects of the African heat wave that is affecting Italy with temperatures even over 35 degrees despite the arrival of sporadic thunderstorms.

The ideal climate on farms is between 22 and 24 degrees, while beyond this limit the animals eat little, drink a lot and produce less milk.

For this reason, anti-heat countermeasures have already been taken in the stables, where the drinkers work at full speed because each individual animal has come to drink up to 140 liters of water a day, against 70 in the cooler periods.

In the stables, fans and refrigerating showers have also been activated to better withstand the heat and meals are given a little at a time to help the cows to feed themselves better without weighing themselves down.

The boiling heat and the lack of water, adds Coldiretti, have also reduced the production of forage necessary for feeding livestock, with the drought alarm affecting the spring sowing of rice, sunflower, corn and soybeans, but also the crops of wheat and other cereals.
