Sunflower oil is available everywhere, only in Germany is the product currently in short supply. A photo from Hungary now raises questions.

Munich – What toilet paper is for Corona, sunflower oil is now for the Ukraine crisis: a hot topic.

If customers in this country discover a few more bottles on the shelf in a supermarket or discounter, they will want to stock up.

It is not uncommon for disputes about the product to escalate.

However, only Germany seems to have a problem with the topic of sunflower oil.

In countries like the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Croatia, Denmark and many more, oil is not in short supply.

Sunflower oil coveted in Germany - cheap oil found in Hungary

And in Hungary, too, the shelves seem to be full.

A user posted a photo and post on Twitter – which merkur.de has not yet been able to check.

It is unclear whether the picture is actually taking place in Hungary at the current time.

But it heats up speculation on Twitter.

Pictured is a shelf full of sunflower oil.

The bottles are piled up by the carton on the Hungarian supermarket shelf.

"The whole shelf is full of sunflower oil".

And not only that sunflower oil is available in large quantities fuels the discussion.

The price of the equivalent of 1.45 euros, at least that's what the Twitter user explains, is also an issue.

In his post, the user asks why there is sunflower oil in Hungary while it is no longer available in Germany.

The answers are not long in coming.

A user explains: "If you consider the fact that little Hungary is No. 6 in the world in the production of sunflower oil (5x more than Germany), that is not surprising." A user writes that old diesel engines would also tolerate sunflower oil and would like to know how high the diesel price is in Hungary.

Sunflower oil shortage due to hamster purchases?

The post on Twitter caused a stir.

There is talk of an artificial shortage, full trucks and price gouging.

A user is convinced that the whole thing is just scaremongering.

It is not clear whether the shelves in Hungary are full because people are hoarding less or have less income available for hoarding.

By the way: In Paraguay, too, the shelves seem to be full of sunflower oil.

The same tweeter promptly sends out another tweet on the subject of sunflower oil.

The video - not checked by merkur.de - is said to show full shelves of sunflower oil in a supermarket in Paraguay.
