Sustainable mobility, 280 billion for sustainable mobility

280 billion

in investments for sustainable mobility, 12 billion for water infrastructures and 7 billion for sustainable construction: this is what the new long-term strategy for infrastructures presented today by the Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility Enrico Giovannini provides.

From the Infrastructure Annex to Def 2022, it emerges that investments for completion, safety, environmental compatibility and technological adaptation of the Integrated National Transport System amount to 279.4 billion (+ 8% on 2021), with

resources already allocated for 209 billion and a residual requirement of 70.4 billion.

Mims points out that compared to 2021 there has been an increase in resources for priority investments for the Integrated National Transport System (SNIT) and a reduction in the residual requirement compared to 2021. The overall economic value of the investments has in fact increased by 8.1%, to 279.4 billion euros from 258.7 billion in 2021, while the deficit, which for this year represents 25% of the total cost, is six percentage points lower than in 2021. For as regards

investments in water infrastructures, they amount to 12.4 billion euros,

of which 4.7 billion are shared resources, against a residual requirement of 7.7 billion euro.

As regards investments for sustainable construction, they amount to a total of 6.7 billion euros, of which 5.3 billion of allocated resources and 1.4 billion of residual needs.

Overall, considering all the items, the total investments of MIMS amount to 298.5 billion euros, of which 218.9 billion of allocated resources and 75.9 billion of residual needs.

The Annex illustrates the set of plans, reforms and investments made and programmed for the next ten years in order to stimulate the development of the country by strengthening its international positioning, increase the competitiveness of the national economic system,

Railways with urban nodes

, on the other hand, are

the item on which MIMS directs the greatest amount of investments to implement the programs necessary for the completion, safety, environmental compatibility and technological adaptation of the Integrated National Transport System ( SNIT).

A total cost of 147.4 billion euros is foreseen

for this item of expenditure

: compared to 104 billion of resources already available, a requirement of 43.4 billion remains.

This is what emerges from the presentation of the Infrastructure Annex to the 2022 Economics and Finance Document made by the Minister for Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility Enrico Giovannini.

Among other interventions and priority programs for transport and mobility,

Roads and motorways

, with a cost of 83.5 billion, available resources of 63.2 billion and a requirement of 20.3 billion.

Then follows the

Rapid Mass Transport

- metropolitan cities, with costs of 32.6 billion, available resources of 28.8 billion and a deficit of 3.8 billion.

For the ports, 10.1 billion investments are foreseen, 9.2 of which are available resources and 900 million are still missing.

The investments for the Airports item amounted to 3.2 billion euros and entirely covered by available resources, while the cost for the Ciclovie is 2.6 billion but the availability amounts to only 600 million with a residual requirement of 2 billion.

Minister Giovannini explained in particular that the huge investments in the railway sector are aimed at enhancing long-distance passenger services

, the integration and strengthening of lines dedicated to regional transport, as well as the strong development of freight traffic, also in order to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants, with a view to interconnection with ports, airports and interports, and integration with other modes of transport (car, soft mobility, etc.).

Investments on the road and motorway network are aimed at securing, technological and digital enhancement, and enhancing the existing heritage also with a view to ecological transition, reducing accidents, decongesting metropolitan, suburban and motorway sections, the integration of the available network with that dedicated to cycling.

Even ports and logistics are the recipients of huge investments, aimed at strengthening port and retroport infrastructures, their transformation in an ecological sense, at the railway interconnection, in line with the plans developed with the collaboration of the port authorities and organizations in the sector. .

Similarly, the investments destined for sustainable urban mobility and the development of urban and tourist cycling are aimed at a significant strengthening of local public transport, at the renewal of rolling stock in an ecological sense and at accompanying changes in the preferences and habits of people in favor of the different forms of soft mobility.
