How many restaurants and starred kitchens are there in your region?

And what is the most popular: German home cooking, pizza and pasta or Asian cuisine?

The Germans like to eat pizza, German home cooking - and everything from Europe.

This is the result of an analysis of the gastro app drive & dine.

The

number of restaurants

and the type of

cuisine

in the 100 largest German cities and the

number of starred restaurants

listed in the Michelin Guide were determined.

A total of 56,470 restaurants were included in the analysis.

In these cities, gourmets will find the most award-winning cuisine

The Michelin Guide

, first published in 1900

, honors restaurants with above-average cuisine.

Gourmets are most likely to get a taste for it

in

Berlin : With 64 Michelin stars, the capital can score with the most award-winning inns.

Munich

is just behind

: the kitchens of the Bavarian metropolis shine with 61 Michelin stars.

Hamburg

takes third place in the ranking

with 56 Michelin stars for the local restaurants.

For a taste experience at a high level, guests in Berlin get their money's worth for an average of 88.83 euros per person.

In the Munich restaurants, the menu is about ten euros more expensive than in Berlin (98.10 euros).

In relation to the number of inhabitants, however,

Offenbach am Main

is at the top: With a density of 1.36 starred restaurants per 100 inhabitants, the chefs in the Hessian city are particularly convincing.

A relatively large number of award-winning catering establishments can also be found in

Neuss

(0.99).

The inns of the star kitchens in Leverkusen chose third place (0.64).

This is where gourmets will find the widest range of dining options

With a total of

147 different cuisines

, Germany offers a varied selection for foodies.

The largest range of restaurants can be found in the urban jungles of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.

With almost 6,390 unique restaurants, Berlin takes first place in the ranking and offers a variety of 90 different cuisines.

Hamburg impresses with a choice of 3,320 dining options.

There are almost 1,000 fewer inns in Munich (3,247 restaurants).

In relation to the number of inhabitants, the cities of Offenbach am Main (1,789 restaurants), Neuss (1,525 restaurants) and Leverkusen (1,064 restaurants) particularly stand out in the ranking.

Fürth restaurants most popular, Gießen with pent-up demand

In terms of ratings, the inns in

Fürth

(4.18),

Mülheim an der Ruhr

and

Bottrop

(4.16 stars each) are particularly popular.

The guests are less satisfied with the offer in Trier (3.88) and Pforzheim (3.84 stars).

Gießen

brings up the


rear

with an average rating of 3.83 stars.

German home cooking most popular

Traditional German cuisine

is still the most common in Germany

(13.6 percent).

Italian cuisine

turned out to be a major competitor and second favorite

(11.2 percent).

European cuisine can also be counted among the three most popular cuisines (8.1 percent).

Asian dining options (4.7 percent) and fast food (3.1 percent) are less common.

In contrast to the national average, restaurateurs in Berlin and Munich


most frequently offer Italian cuisine (17.7 and 20.7 percent respectively).

Our study shows how much people in Germany appreciate the great variety of different cuisines.

It is precisely this diversity that we want to offer travelers as well, and with our selection of over 1,500 restaurants we present unique and varied places to stop off near the motorway. This way travelers can enjoy their usual favorite cuisine while driving and do not have to resort to the limited range of rest stops.

About the investigation

For the study, all 2,074 Michelin-starred restaurants within Germany were compared.

The average costs per person, type of cuisine and city were taken into account.

In addition, a total of 55,193 restaurants available via Tripadvisor in the 100 largest German cities were included in the analysis.

The price range, cuisine and the ratings were taken into account.
