The dead woman was discovered in September 2021 in a canal near Roermond on the border with Germany - eight months later, according to the investigation, it is clear: It is a woman from North Rhine-Westphalia who was probably the victim of a crime.

According to a joint statement from the police and the Wuppertal public prosecutor's office, a cousin in Germany had reported the 57-year-old from Solingen missing.

Despite a public search in the Netherlands, the identity could not initially be determined.

In consultation with the authorities in the neighboring country, the police and public prosecutor's office in Wuppertal have set up a murder commission to clarify the background to the alleged act of violence.
