Eli Mizrahi, one of the most prominent culinary figures in the Jerusalem scene, passed away tonight at the age of 71.

Mizrahi, who was born and lived all his life in Jerusalem, established the mythical Mizrahi Cafe in the Mahane Yehuda market, the Laughter restaurant and Casino Paris, three places that left a mark on Jerusalem cuisine.

For a long time he was chairman of the market traders' committee, working to promote changes in the place's infrastructure and branding the Mahane Yehuda market as a vibrant and young place.

In his youth, Mizrahi traveled a lot around the world, from where he drew inspiration from places of entertainment and restaurants within the markets, and sought to bring it to the Mahane Yehuda market, which was a home for him.

In 2002 he opened Mizrahi Cafe, together with his daughter Moran, who returned from studying confectionery at Cordon Bleu, and the place became one of the cornerstones of the market, operated successfully for 14 years and was home to local artists and music, and the best cafes Jerusalem knew.

Mizrahi later realized that in order to revive the market, a younger audience had to be attracted to it.

His vision was to open more businesses that would bring in a different audience, young people, families, students, and then set up Casino de Paris.

During the Corona period, his daughter Honeysuckle announced that they were closing Casino de Paris, the Jerusalem bar-restaurant that stood firm even in times of war and security tensions, after 8 years of activity in which he contributed greatly to Jerusalem's unique nightlife.

Casino de Paris, was without a doubt the most special place in the Mahniuda market.

Eli Mizrahi, who was already a well-known figure in Jerusalem at the time, established the place together with his daughter Yaara and other partners such as Sha'anan Street.

Although not the first, the casino symbolized the transformation of the market into an active night complex with its charm hidden in its location.

In the evening when all the bastions were folded, the folding chairs would be opened and the heating pads and the yard of the place came to life.

In a post published at the time, his daughter Honeysuckle wrote about the closure "In our family, this is already the third restaurant we are closing. And every time again it is really hard, because these places are soaked in love and soul."

The kizno's Facebook account read at the time, "We have managed to survive the crises, the municipality, the government and other troubles for a long time. "The uncertainty about the future, this time we are broken and we do not have the mental and financial ability to deal with the sequel. With uneasy feelings, we are forced to close."

Tonight, Mizrahi's daughters announced that their beloved, generous and dear father had passed away.

The mayor of Jerusalem,

Moshe Leon

, paid tribute to him "Jerusalem hurts the untimely passing of the late Eli Mizrahi.

Eli was a pioneer thanks to the "Mizrahi Cafe" he opened in the Mahane Yehuda market, at the height of the terrorist attacks he became a symbol among many who saw it as one of the best cafes in Jerusalem and spent many times there.

Eli acted at all times and unconditionally for the promotion and development of the Mahane Yehuda market and was the first to recognize the potential of recreation in the place.

Thanks to his work, he opened a door to the many cafes, restaurants and bars that came after him and added another significant touch to our all-time favorite market.

The residents of Jerusalem and I share in the grief of his family.

May his rest be heaven. "
