A Siegburg family is said to have tied up and abused a wheelchair user in their apartment for a month to get his money.
The public prosecutor's office in Bonn has accused a 29-year-old and his 32-year-old sister of aggravated deprivation of liberty, among other things, according to a court spokeswoman.
The sister's 34-year-old husband was charged with aiding and abetting.
The family is accused of a total of 52 crimes, including aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, computer fraud and theft.
Two other co-defendants are accused of failing to provide assistance.
The family is said to have made the neighbor their prisoner in February 2021 when he wanted to pick up his house key from her after a hospital stay.
According to the prosecutor, the man was beaten, kicked, humiliated and tortured for four weeks.
Tens of thousands of euros deducted
According to the authorities, more than 25,000 euros were debited from his account during this time.
Further attempts to withdraw 35,000 euros online failed.
A bank employee who noticed the irregularities in the account and who was unable to reach the account owner reportedly called the police.
According to the information, the wheelchair user was found seriously injured in the family kitchen in March 2021.
The accused have so far remained silent on the allegations.
The trial before the Bonn district court is scheduled to start in the summer.
