Wedding at first sight: Is it really repulsive and dangerous to kiss dogs in the mouth?

Mai and Moshe Mahtonmi exhibit a particularly sticky relationship, with only one thing threatening harmony - Mai's dog ray, and the fact that she kisses him on the mouth.

So we decided to check if it was really a horrible habit like Moses thinks, and if it endangered May's health.

Here are the answers

Every person who adopts a dog knows that it is a huge love, one that is almost hard to contain.

And anyone who follows our health section knows that the love that a dog gives is very good for body and mind.

So, wedding scouts were split yesterday into two - dog owners who fully understand why May treats Ray as if he were her son, kissing and sleeping with him at night, and people who are less attached to dogs who have managed to understand Moshe's reluctance to these habits.

Moshe created a strange drama around May's dog.

There is only one explanation for this

So we decided to see if there was a logical reason for Moshe's reluctance from May's physical closeness to her dog, and what exactly happens to our body when we kiss a dog on its mouth or let it lick the facial area.

Let's start with the fact that the mouth of all living things is actually the first part of the digestive system, as a result its function is to start the digestive process of the food that the dogs consume.

For this purpose, it has saliva / mucus that helps at the beginning of the process of breaking down food, but also residues of food or other particles that enter the mouth (and dogs are known to put everything in the mouth).

Throughout history there has been a belief in some peoples that dog mucus has healing properties, and in ancient Egypt dogs were even allowed to lick wounds to bring about recovery.

But this fact is true but only partially.

A large study from 2018 that examined the mucus composition of Labrador and Beagle dogs found that it contained enzymes, anti-inflammatory substances, histamines that accelerate the immune response and other proteins that damage the various microbes.

But alongside that, mucus also contains various bacteria and viruses that can seriously endanger us, such as rabies, salmonella and Campylobacter - a bacterium that causes diarrhea.

These bacteria are especially dangerous if bitten by the dog or come in contact with his feces, but can certainly pass through saliva as well.

Saliva of dogs are also various parasites (worms) that are transmitted in the oro-peculiar form (or in simple words - licking fecal remains).

Another health hazard is allergy - while most people think that allergies are caused by the dog's fur, in fact mucus and fur licking are the main causes of allergies.

But despite all of the above, we absolutely recommend that Moshe release his strange reluctance from dogs and surrender.

It will only do him good.

Many (very) studies show that dogs get along well with humans, at any age and in any situation.

Past studies have shown that children who grow up with dogs and cats have more developed emotional intelligence and are more compassionate compared to children who do not grow up with animals.

One study even showed an improvement in the social skills of children who are on the autism spectrum thanks to the upbringing of a pet.

Another study from the University of Wisconsin that examined the effects of dogs on toddlers found that children who had a dog at home when they were toddlers tended to develop far fewer atopic dermatitis allergies, and wheezing, compared to children who grew up without a dog.

And the benefits of raising pets are not just for children.

Various studies have shown that animal care leads to lower blood pressure and heart rate, reduces the stress hormone cortisol and raises the levels of the hormone that causes a good feeling - serotonin.

In recent years, the benefits of animal care for Alzheimer's patients have also been demonstrated.

A new study even found that just 10 minutes with a four-legged friend helped patients suffering from physical pain in the emergency room.

The researchers in the current study concluded that "playing with dogs alone has been shown to raise oxytocin and dopamine, and create positive emotions" - and this is what all participants in the current season of Wedding at First Sight need, especially Moshe.
