Pasta recall in Germany: Salmonella can trigger acute intestinal inflammation

Salmonella are described by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) as bacteria whose metabolic products can trigger acute intestinal inflammation, salmonellosis, in humans.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), salmonellosis is one of the most common bacterial diseases in humans.

The BVL writes on its website: "A typical salmonella infection is manifested by nausea, possibly vomiting, abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea.

These symptoms can last for several days.

The disease usually heals within a few days without medical treatment.

In small children and the elderly in particular, however, diarrhea can quickly lead to a life-threatening dehydration of the body or to a general infection of the body.

Therefore, in these cases, a doctor should be consulted immediately.”
