Tom Cruise, hear? Lady Gaga's 10 Greatest Songs | Israel today

2022-05-26T14:48:21.917Z

In honor of the release of the movie "Love in the Sky 2", for which the lady recorded the theme song, we thought it would only be asked to review some of the standout songs of someone who has been defined for a decade and a half as no less than Madonna's heiress • Your song did not make the list? Even if you have yet to see "Love in the Sky: Maverick", the acclaimed sequel to the action classic "Love in the Sky", you have probably already come across "Hold My Hand", the film's theme song, performed by one Lady Gaga.

After several years of (relatively) silence, this was undoubtedly a great opportunity for the iconic singer and creator to present her artistic wares to the world.

And it's also a great opportunity to revisit some of the great hits she's written and recorded, which have made her one of the most influential and important singers in the music world in the decade and a half since it burst into consciousness.

This is not a list that includes only hits (or is ranked in any way), and is actually quite subjective.

But the vast majority of the songs here would surely have made even Tom Cruise - if not fly in the air, then at least jump enthusiastically on a couch.

Just Dance

(with Colby O'Donis)

Interestingly, Lady Gaga's debut single was generally introduced to the world as a new song by rapper Icon (who also wrote the song), along with his protégé Colby O'Donis, and some anonymous singer no one knew at the time.

The story behind it is both silly and dramatic, as Gaga says she wrote it in 2008 in no more than 10 minutes, when she was in a heavy hangover from a drinking night.

"It was my first time in a recording studio in Hollywood," she said in an interview.

"Everything was a big, huge name, with huge speakers. A lot of people didn't believe in this song at first."

She went on to say: "This song saved my life. I was living in New York back then and it was a dark time. I was so depressed, sitting in bars all the time. I got on a plane to Los Angeles and was given invitations to record the song that would change my life. I did too. "I did not return once. I left my friend and my apartment and did not look back."

Poker Face

It was only the second single in the star's career, after "Just Dance", but it undoubtedly surpassed it - both in terms of addictive hook, and in terms of catchy chorus.

His inspiration, for those who do not know, comes from Gaga's desire to hide from her ex-partner the fact that while they are spending time together in bed, she is actually fantasizing about a woman.

Paparzzi

If anyone else thought Gaga's first two singles were Fox, no more than a beginner's luck, immediately after them came "Paparazzi" and was the final seal of approval for Gaga as the right singer and pop star of the moment.

Even if it is a hit that came out at very early stages in the singer's career, his words deal with the difficulty of dealing and balancing the good and approval that come from success, and between extreme and intrusive exposure to the general public.

The status of paparazzi photographers has declined significantly since then (with the entry of social media into the game and their becoming self-information donation platforms on behalf of world celebrities themselves), but at the time it was considered particularly relevant and captured the spirit of the time.

Many also remember the performance of the song at the 2009 MTV Awards, where the singer performed the song while hanging on a chandelier, in a mock blood cover.

Bad Romance

The song that made Lady Gaga an international star is still considered one of her best and most important works.

In many ways he helped shape and define the body of work of the singer, who after this song many were quick to define as "the next Madonna".

This was not entirely true, but also not entirely inaccurate.

If the beginning with introductory songs like "Paparazzi" was considered an acquaintance for a creator and performer that pop lovers had not known before, this bad romance has made Gaga a star who will define the next decade in world pop.

Born This Way

Does it sound suspiciously similar to Madonna's "Express Yourself"?

completely.

Was it problematically accepted in light of what was perceived as a text containing racial stereotypes and pretensions to LGBT redemption? Absolutely. Ignore it, and created well-intentioned and quite opposite intentions. While opposition to it was great, many also chose to see it as the anthem of empowerment that it was originally meant to be, for anyone who suffers (or enjoys) oddities.

Alejandro

Just like the Queen Mother, the inspiration and comparison, the Lady is also attracted to exotic Latin guys.

"Alejandro" may not have been as lovingly received in the US as other songs, but in most of the world it was a huge hit. Either way, Gaga says goodbye in this song to three men who were not so good to her, and there is no better way to do that than with a huge hit.

Telephone

(with Beyonce)

The collaboration between the two biggest pop giants in the world was enough to spark interest in "Phone," a wide-ranging song that deals with stifling relationships.

But no less interesting than this formidable combination of forces is the details behind it.

Suppose, the fact that he was originally offered by Gaga to none other than Britney Spears, who refused him (although the demo of her participation leaked to the network in 2010).

Beyoncé by default is a very strange concept to think about, and also about the fact that Gaga said in a 2011 interview that she no less hates her and Kevin Bee's phone song, and that his production and mixing process was "particularly stressful".

Speechless

Of the more rockish songs in the LGJ catalog, some dare (and not quite unjustly) to compare it, in terms of vocal performance, to Kevin's songs and the vocal abilities of the late Freddie Mercury.

And this is an unfounded piece of compliment, since alongside her proven writing and composing abilities - it is hard to argue with the fact that this is a singer with a big and powerful voice.

There are also those who define "Speechless" as "the best Broadway song - which did not reach Broadway."

Either way, this is a song that has proven that even as it moves away from the pop areas the synthesizers it perfected and designed in the previous decade, Gaga is still in its element.

Million reasons

By the way, vocal abilities - these were also particularly impressively expressed in "A Million Reasons", a relatively simple ballad, which can be considered an unintentional audition for the role she performed with honors in the cinematic hit "A Star Is Born" (and we'll get to that in a moment).

In this minimalist ballad, Gaga sings about a war for love against all odds - something the above single understands a thing or two about. This is because he jumped to number one on the American hits chart no less than three months after its release, moments after the musician's memorable appearance in the Super Bowl halfway show. In 2017.

Shallow

(with Bradley Cooper)

Okay, if you really admit it and when you think about it in depth, "Shallow" is an annoying song piece.

It's a rather predictable and oppressive ballad, and even the fact that it's actually a surprising duet with actor Bradley Cooper (who turns out to be a not-so-bad singer here at all) doesn't really make him sing too well.

But for no apparent reason to write these lines, the theme song of the annoying (but very successful) film “A Star Is Born” starring the two, was a huge hit in late 2018, and is considered a kind of comeback for Lady Gaga.

"Hollow" has over time also become a karaoke hit for those who want to fake a duo, singing in two voices until the joint chorus, which is considered the pinnacle of this popular piece.

And with success, especially such, it is hard to argue.
