(by Giorgio Gosetti) (ANSA) - CANNES, MAY 27 - Against all odds that saw Valeria Golino (president) and her jury of the second Cannes competition psychologically attracted to the beautiful Ukrainian film "Butterfly Vision" by Maksim Nkonchnyi, is the FrenchLES PIRES, debut feature by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret, to win the most anticipated of the Un Certain Regard awards.
The story of a gang of kids from the French provinces who are chosen to take part in the shooting of a film, despite the fact that everyone in the city knows that they are the "worst", the film will be distributed in Italy by I Wonder.
A smiling and not at all embarrassed Valeria Golino, accompanied on stage by the director of the Festival, then rattled off the other awards, not without mentioning the high level of engara's works and the difficulty of choosing with the head and with the heart.
Hence the jury's "coup de coeur" honors one of the most original and adrenaline-pumping films of the year, RODEO by LolaQuivoron.
The best screenplay is that of Maha Haj, director of MEDITERRANEAN FEVER;
the best actors are VickyKrieps for CORSAGE and Adam Bessa for HARKA (both authentic revelations);
the best direction goes to Alexandru Belc for METRONOM, but the other excellent prize, the Jury Prize, honors JOYLAND by Sim Sadiq with which Pakistan wins for the first time at Cannes.
Courageous choice for the author given that it is the love story between the scion of a religious and traditionalist family and a seductive transsexual dancer.
