In some shops, customers in Germany can still pay by card.
Where this is possible, read here.
Kassel – The card readers of the US manufacturer Verifone have been on strike since Tuesday (May 24).
This causes massive problems, especially in German retail, because the H5000 device is made for the German market.
As the payment service provider Payone announced, not all of the approximately 60,000 devices nationwide are affected, as a spokeswoman explained.
The spokeswoman was unable to provide any information on when the problem could be resolved.
The replacement of the devices could not be finally ruled out.
On the Payone website, however, the company asks retailers not to start a self-diagnosis.
"Please leave (the devices) connected to the power supply," the company warned urgently.
Card payment is currently not possible everywhere, but the devices still work in some shops.

Not all supermarkets and shops suffer from card payment disruption
Many supermarkets, restaurants and boutiques are suffering from the mass failure of card readers.
Well-known chains including: Netto Marken-Discount, Edeka, Aldi Nord, dm and Rossmann.
Aldi Nord also confirmed on the company website that payment by card is currently not possible: “Since May 24th, many retailers in Germany and Austria have been experiencing problems with card payments.
Numerous ALDI Nord branches are also affected by this.”
As several media reported, not all supermarkets are affected by the disruption.
There is still hope for all customers who prefer to pay by card.
The overview shows the markets in which this is possible.
Here you can still easily pay by card:
Aldi south
Lidl
Members of the Rewe Group: Rewe, Penny, Toom Baumarkt.
Nationwide problems with card payments: the duration of the disruption is still unclear
So far it is still unclear when the fault can be fixed, but experts have already identified the reason for the total failure.
According to Payone, this is due to a certificate error within certain versions of the software provided by Verifone.

For customers, the card failure means one thing above all: back to paying with cash.
But what if the disruption comes as a surprise and your wallet is empty?
Then things get serious for the buyer - if necessary, the purchase has to stop.
According to a report by chip.de, ID cards, driver's licenses and health insurance cards can be retained as a deposit at gas stations.
Since the disruption can last for a few more days, it is advisable to always have one or two bills and coins with you.
