(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 27 - Russia is pushing towards genocide in Ukraine and committing atrocities aimed at destroying the Ukrainian people: this is stated by 30 international law experts in the first independent report since the beginning of the conflict, which CNN has seen.
The document, prepared by the New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy, a US-based thinktank, and the Raoul Wallenberg Center for Human Rights (Canada), provides "extensive and detailed evidence on the mass killings of civilians, forced deportations and dehumanizing rhetoric used by senior Russian officials deny the existence of a Ukrainian identity ".
Moscow "is responsible for violations of the Genocide Convention in Ukraine," Azeem Ibrahim of the NewLines Institute, who visited CNN, told CNN.
Ukraine in March to gather evidence for the report, which will be distributed in winters, parliaments and international bodies around the world.
"What we have seen so far is that this war is genocidal in nature, in terms of the language used and the way it is carried out."
