“We shot this season of Stranger Things a year ago.
But given the school shooting in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of the first episode disturbing." As reported by industry magazine Variety, among others, Netflix placed this warning before the opening credits of their hit series.
On Tuesday, an 18-year-old gunman shot dead 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in the small Texas town of Uvalde.
Netflix responded to the incident on Thursday because the opening sequence in the first episode of their series describes an act of violence in which a laboratory's staff and some children die.
The production works with motifs and narrative techniques from the fantasy and horror genre.
"Stranger Things" is one of the most successful series of the streaming service, the warning should only be seen in the US version.
After growth rates at Netflix have been below expectations in recent months and competitors such as Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ have stolen subscribers from the company, there is a certain nervousness there.
The fourth season of "Stranger Things" must therefore be a success for Netflix.
