Strong competition in the second phase of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative

Governorates - SANA continues in the governorates of Hama, Lattakia and Aleppo, the activities of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative in its second phase

In the governorates of Hama, Lattakia and Aleppo, the activities of the Arab Reading Challenge initiative are continuing in its second stage for qualifying to select the top 10 students at the level of each governorate.

In Aleppo Governorate, 400 male and female students are competing to be selected as the top 10 at the governorate level, according to Ali Al-Abbas, the initiative's general coordinator in Syria.

Al-Abbas indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the number of students who participated in Syria amounted to 61 thousand participants, of whom 11022 qualified for the first stage, and today 2150 are competing in the second stage, which indicates that the next stage will be prosperous with the participation of young people.

Whereas, the coordinator of the initiative in Aleppo, Engineer Muhammad Dahdouh, explained that the questions directed to the students test their skills and ability to understand, comprehend and speak fluently.

The supervisor of the reading challenge at the Arab Generation School, Nour Bardas, drew attention to the importance of these cultural events that concern the new generation, develop its mind and expand its knowledge and perceptions.

In Lattakia Governorate, the qualifiers for the second phase of the Arab Reading Challenge initiatives began at Adnan Jaloud School, with the participation of 108 male and female students from different academic levels.

The ministerial coordinator of the reading challenge in Latakia, Muhammad Salloum, told SANA reporter that six top students will be selected to participate at the level of the Republic, indicating that each participating student must finish 50 books that are summarized within specific criteria that are presented to the jury, which in turn tests the student.

The coordinator of the Arab Writers Union, Mamdouh Laiqa, explained that the competition is at the level of the Arab world to select the students who benefit from their reading more than others, noting that the winners will be selected according to criteria that include language skill, comprehension of the reading material, the student’s linguistic and personal presence, and the flow and integrity of his language.

The initiative aims, according to the coordinator of psychological and social guidance in the Latakia Education Directorate, Dr. Dalal Ammar, to encourage a return to the book, benefit from reading, and raise the level of culture among students, which will positively reflect on their self-confidence.

The coordinator of the Arabic language in Lattakia education, Dr. Mazen Othman, explained that the importance of the competition lies in drawing the student into continuous reading and enriching his culture and linguistic wealth.

In Hama Governorate, today 183 male and female students participated in the second phase of the Reading Challenge initiative from regular schools and 150 from the pool of outstanding schools from different governorates.

Hama Education Director Yahya Munjid confirmed in a statement to SANA reporter that the aim of this competition is to build an educated, creative and innovative generation that belongs to its homeland and possesses the knowledge and culture that qualifies it for its reconstruction.
