The meetings held in Xinjiang were "unsupervised" by the Chinese authorities.
This was stated by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, speaking in the online press conference closing her mission in China.
"We have had the opportunity to have high-level discussions and have identified areas where we can develop a dialogue for the future," she added.
