11 days after it opened, the Cannes Film Festival came to an end tonight (Saturday) after Ruben Ostlund's "Triangle of Sadness" film was announced as the big winner, after winning the prestigious Golden Palm Award.

This is the second time the esteemed Swedish director has won an award, having won the film "The Square" in 2017.

"Triangle of Sadness," a black comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Harris Dickinson and Charlie Dean, follows a pair of famous models (Dickinson and Dean) who are invited to attend a luxury vacation for the wealthy only.

The film is considered a favorite to win immediately after its screening.

The Grand Prix, the second most important at the festival, was shared by two films: "Close" by the Belgian Lucas Donat and "Stars At Noon" by the veteran Claire Danny.

A draw was also recorded in the third most important prize at the festival, the Jury Prize, which was won by "EO" by the Polish Jerzy Skolimowski and "The Eight Mountains" by Felix van Groningen and the Belgian Charlotte and Undermirche.

Other awards handed out tonight were the acting awards, in which South Korean Song Kang-ho won for his role in "Boker" and Iranian Tsar Amir Avrahami for her role in "Holy Spider."

The director's award went to the esteemed South Korean Chan-Wok Park, for his film "Decisions To Leave" and the screenplay award went to the Swedish Tariq Salah for his film "Boy From Heaven".

The Belgian Darden brothers won a special award for "Tori And Lokita" films.

Many well-known directors competed for the Palme d'Or, including David Kronenberg, Kelly Reichart, James Gray, Hirokazu Cora-eda and Michelle Haznevicius.

Some have won prizes in the past, or other prizes in the competition, and even tried to do so this year as well - but as mentioned, not everyone can be the winners, and they were forced to leave Cannes empty-handed.

The Golden Camera Award, given to the debut film, was given to actress Riley Kiao's "War Pony" (who is also the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, whose biographical film was screened at an out-of-competition festival) and Gina Camel.

The film "Plan 75" by director Chi Hayakawa won a commendation in this category.

Other notable names who screened their new films, even if not as part of the official competition but outside of it, were George Miller and Ethan Cohen.

One of the most glittering names to walk the red carpet on the French Riviera was that of Tom Cruise, whose new film "Love in the Sky: Maverick" won a special screening.

If that's not enough, Cruz himself won the Golden Palm Award of Honor from the festival's organizers - an award given to him by surprise.

A similar award went to Oscar-winning actor Forrest Whitaker.

The jury was headed this year by French actor Vincent Lyndon.

His members on the judging panel were Rebecca Hall, Jeff Nichols, Asgad Farhadi, Nomi Rapas, Defica Padukon, Joachim Terrier, Jasmine Trinka and Ladge Lee.

Already yesterday, even before the announcement of the winners of the main competition of the festival, the film "The Worst Ones" by Lisa Akuka and Romana Gert was announced as the winner of the size award as part of the festival's secondary "certain look" no less prestigious.

The film follows the reaction of neighborhood residents in a suburb in the north of France to a camera crew who come to film a film at their place of residence.

Pakistani Siim Sadik's film "Joyland" won the Jury Prize.

The 75th edition of the festival, which is considered the most thought-provoking in the world of cinema, took place this year in full format for the second year in a row - after the event was canceled in 2020 following the Corona plague, which was then at its peak around the world.

As you may recall, the Israeli Nadav Lapid won the Jury Prize this year, the third most important at the festival, for his film "The Knee".
