Live tracking of parcels is intended to make delivery easier for DHL customers.

What is theoretically a practical service has recently caused a lot of confusion.

Munich – It's actually quite practical: Thanks to a new function, DHL customers can track exactly where their parcel is and always know exactly when the courier is at the door with the long-awaited delivery.

This offers transparency and saves you having to go to the neighbors if the delivery is just missed again.

Recently, however, live tracking has caused more confusion than relief.

Live tracking is based on the following principle: As soon as the DHL courier stacks the package in his delivery truck, the customer can track its route.

He receives constantly updated information via the app about how many stopovers there are to his own front door and what time the delivery can be expected.

DHL: New function confuses customers – parcel service explains itself

After DHL customers regularly lost their nerve at the Packstation, complaints kept coming up about this function as well.

The reason: Live tracking sometimes gives irritating information.

"The car stood in the same place on the screen for more than an hour and a half and didn't move at all," said one customer on DHL's Facebook page, expressing her displeasure.

"And it said '3 more delivery stops until delivery'."

The customer had already experienced that she had long since received the package, although according to the live delivery the courier was still a long way from her house.

"What's the point of this live delivery if it doesn't work?" She asks the parcel service.

Only recently, some DHL customers were outraged because the package delivery was canceled shortly before their front door.

Actually, the live tracking should be a relief for DHL customers.

In fact, it's irritating.

DHL is not allowed to give the exact position of the deliverer - because of data and personal protection

The company came forward with a statement to speak.

DHL's reply says: "For reasons of data protection and to protect our deliverers, we only give the exact position of the delivery vehicle approximately." In addition, it does not necessarily mean that your own address is also the next delivery destination, just because the car near the receiving address.

After all, the 90-minute time window in which the courier can be at the door with the package is only an expected delivery time.

It is only a forecast that the parcel service creates on the basis of empirical values.

"Unfortunately, it can happen that our forecast for the delivery time and the delivery stops cannot always be met due to unforeseeable events." Because even DHL messengers are not immune to traffic jams and unforeseeable events.
