Health Minister Brigitte Bourguignon has promised to take measures "to cope with the summer" and the shortage of caregivers.

Weeks pass and concern grows over the shortage of caregivers currently affecting the public hospital, while at least 120 hospitals are facing "serious difficulties" in their emergency services, representing 20% of establishments in France.

On Franceinfo on Friday evening, the president of the Fédération hospitalière de France, Frédéric Valletoux, expressed his fears about the summer holidays, indicating that "120 to 130 emergency services" are already "forced to reduce the airfoil" .

“We don't want to see people waiting whole hours, maybe even whole days, in the emergency room.

What will it be like this summer?

It will undoubtedly be the most difficult summer we have ever known.

We must quickly find solutions, “he warned, before adding:” If we do not organize ourselves in the coming weeks, we will have much greater tensions than today.

"A real collapse of the public hospital"

An observation shared this Saturday on France Inter by Frédéric Adnet and Matthieu Lacroix, respectively head of the emergency department of the Avicenne hospital in Bobigny and emergency doctor in Orléans.

"We are no longer at the risk level, we are witnessing a real collapse of the public hospital and the emergencies are a symptom of this collapse", insists the first, who had never seen "such a catastrophic situation for the emergencies" in 30 years of career.

For his part, Matthieu Lacroix points to the example of Orléans, where several hundred beds cannot be opened, "for lack of nurses and doctors to take care of patients".

"At the moment we don't know where we are going to put these patients, we are in a crisis situation on which we will have to take immediate measures and tackle a fundamental problem, the lack of staff", continues Frederic Adnet.

“There will be deaths.

All the studies show that the more the emergencies are bottled, the more we increase the mortality.

(…) We expect to have 30% of beds closed during the holidays, where are we going to put the patients?

“, he laments, asking to “reactivate the crisis cells” in the face of such a perilous situation.

Just appointed Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon promised Thursday to take measures "to face the summer

» and respond to the shortage of personnel.

“We became fully aware of this crisis now.

The President of the Republic has made Health the priority project.

France suffers above all from an overall shortage of personnel, not only of doctors, but also of other caregivers,” she said.
