FLORENCE - The new Hzero museum project opens in Florence from 29 May, in the spaces of the former Ariston cinema, a model of 280 square meters in which small trains (70 in total by the manufacturers Marklin, Piko, Roco) cross the mountain landscapes of the Dolomites and run along the coasts of the island of Elba.

The model, with almost a kilometer of tracks, 359 possible sections and 121 traffic lights, was born from an idea of the Marquis Giuseppe Paternò Castello di San Giuliano, who began to set it up in 1972, making it one of the largest in Europe.

The museum is located in the historic center, a few steps from the Santa Maria Novella station: the scale is 1:87, with great attention to detail.

The rocks are made of gypsum, cast in silicone rubber molds, while the sea, lakes and rivers are made of resin.

The large dam, inspired by that of the Brasimone, was reproduced with a plywood structure.

There are sound effects and both daytime and nighttime hours are recreated, thanks to over 1000 street lamps.

The museum was founded on an architectural project by Luigi Fragola, is supported by the FS Italiane Foundation and curated by Alberto Salvadori.

The museum is open from Monday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm, closing on Tuesdays.

For the opening day you can access for free by reservation.

At the same time, it is also possible to visit the exhibition 'The places of the journey.

The train whistle '.

"A space of culture that opens up, a space closed for too long that comes back to life - underlined the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella -. Thanks to the project of the San Giuliano family, finally inaugurates a new multifaceted center that around the huge model of the train will invite young and old to the magic of modeling told for the first time in a unique interactive way ".

The president of Hzero Diego Paternò Castello di San Giuliano highlighted that the opening "crowns a long history of friendship, love for beauty, creativity and energy".

According to Salvadori it is "a place dedicated to passion and play".
