War of Attrition: "Strange Things" in Season Four | Israel today

2022-05-29T05:30:56.500Z

The exaggerated episode length in the new season of the Netflix hit series seems to ask us to watch it twice as fast to skip the dead sections • And yet, it provides answers to many mysteries and questions from previous seasons • Just do not watch Bing unless you love extreme sports

Too bad we can not run sections of our lives at double speed.

Such a feature would upgrade our existence in the world, improve waiting in traffic jams or queues at Ben Gurion Airport, shorten reprimand calls from parents and bosses, and certainly contribute to our quality of life.

The above need is felt in light of the fact that more and more people are discovering the experience of watching TV at an increased speed, and it seems that there are no bastards like them in the whole world. - and exists in some of the digital platforms - will become necessary for all of us.

The root of the problem lies in the creators of series and shows who do not consider the well-being of viewers or their concentration disorders, and produce episodes that are too long with slow scenes, random dialogues and lots of dead moments.

Take as an example the Netflix hit "Strange Things," which returned yesterday for a new season, and as if trying to make up for a three-year absence.

Any connection between it and the standard structure of a TV series - absolutely coincidental.

The length of the seventh episode, which closes the first part of the season, is 98 minutes, while five of the six episodes that precede it last more than 70 minutes each.

Then, at the end of the attrition, the plot is interrupted at the height of the tension and waiting for two final episodes to come out in July - one lasting 95 minutes, and another lasting two and a half hours.

The word "exaggerated" is not exaggerated enough to describe the levels of exaggeration of the season, which there is no chance of swallowing it on Bing without freaking out.

In her defense it will be said that the new episodes provided answers to the mysterious mysteries that troubled the characters.

They reveal the process that Elban (the heroine who saves the world) went through and the significance of her supernatural powers;

The season also deciphers the mystery of the inverted world, and explains how the terrifying monster that haunts the boys was created.

And yet, the season is insanely long, less nostalgic than we are used to, less funny, but suspenseful and violent in the style of Freddie Krueger.

There's no way to survive it without humming out uncontrollably Kate Bush's best song or google what the actors are who play high schoolers and already look twenty-plus.

"Strange Things" will draw you to it with octopus arms, like that supernatural villain who instills fear in the characters, penetrates them into the brain, burrows into anxieties and floods with traumas and fears before killing.

So the only thing capable of defeating a powerful, manipulative and annoying monster like the fourth season of "Strange Things" is the same little button that drives it to watch twice as fast.
