ANSA Lavoro - ROME, MAY 31 - Inflation accelerates again in May, after the slowdown in April.
According to the preliminary estimates of Istat, the national index of consumer prices for the whole community (Nic), before tobacco, recorded an increase of 0.9% on a monthly basis and of 6.9% on an annual basis (from + 6.0% of the previous month).
"In May, after the slowdown in April, inflation accelerates again, rising to a level that has not been recorded since March 1986 (when it was equal to +7.0%)", explains Istat.
The so-called 'shopping cart' is also accelerating, which has always reached its highest levels for 36 years: the prices of food products, for home and personal care, in fact go up to + 6.7%, from + 5.7% in April.
"The high increases in the prices of energy goods continue to be the driving force of inflation (with non-regulated ones accelerating) and their consequences are increasingly propagated to other product sectors, the increased production costs of which reverberate on the final phase of marketing", he explains. Istat, specifying that "in fact, consumer prices accelerate for almost all other product types, with processed foodstuffs making the price increase in the 'shopping cart' rise by one point".
The inflation acquired for 2022, i.e. the average change that would be assumed that the index remains at the same level for the rest of the year, is equal to + 5.7% for the general index and + 2.5% for the basically.
