(ANSA) - ROME - "The serious war situation in Ukraine, determined by the conflict with the Russian Federation, also raises serious questions on the cereal supply chain and market trends, in a context of high prices of raw materials and increase in the costs of production factors ".
The availability of wheat, in particular, drops by 0.8% in the 2022-23 campaign.
This is what emerges with the RomaCereali report presented, within the international seminar on the 2022 cereal scenario, this morning at the Rome Chamber of Commerce.
The analysis of the experts makes available to the entrepreneurs of the cereal chain the updating of the final balance sheets and of the production and market forecasts, at national and international level,
The study also highlights that "many concerns arise when the ability to guarantee an adequate supply of cereals for food is in further and serious danger, especially in some weak areas of the world".
Data in hand, the report, in the analysis of production potential and of the market, notes that the 2022-2023 campaign for wheat is announced with lower availability than the previous campaign (‐0.8%), "the result of a significant decrease in areas and production (-1.6%), only partially offset by the positive level of initial stocks (+ 1.3%) ".
Looking at the projection of wheat production in the world, on the other hand, a non-homogeneous trend can be seen in the large geographical areas.
The 2022-2023 campaign, for wheat as a whole, would appear in the world with a production forecast (data from the International Cereals Council-Igc) that stops at 769 million tons (-1.6%).
In Europe 27 too, total wheat production is expected to decrease by 3,
2 million tons, standing at 134.9 million tons in the 2022-2023 campaign (equal to -2.3%) and the area devoted to wheat is expected to be stable.
