Should we expect a new corona wave?
Karl Lauterbach wants to be prepared for this and calls for the possibility of masks being compulsory.
Munich – In view of the easing of numerous corona restrictions and the falling number of cases, one could almost think that the pandemic would be over.
Experts keep pointing out that this is not the case.
Especially with a view to autumn, they already see us confronted with the next Corona wave.
Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (55, SPD) is therefore already planning the possible introduction of a new mask requirement.

Lothar Wieler (61), head of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), told the “Bayerischer Rundfunk” that all scientists “who are really serious and well-founded, i.e. with specialist knowledge, deal with this pandemic assume that the numbers will rise again in the autumn".
He also expects the incidence to rise again.
Frank Ulrich Montgomery, Chairman of the World Medical Association, is already calling for an “anti-corona plan” and believes that the Infection Protection Act needs to be amended.
"So that containment measures can be put in place when the situation becomes serious, in a consistent manner nationwide," Montgomery said.
It even advocates anchoring a possible lockdown.
Lauterbach sees it similarly.
In the ZDF talk show “Markus Lanz” he says that he thinks it is “absolutely necessary” to edit the Infection Protection Act again to enable the option of wearing a mask indoors.
So that the necessary instruments are available just in case.
"The Infection Protection Act does not describe what is done or what should be done, but describes what precautionary measures and restrictions we can use if it were necessary," explains Lauterbach.
New vaccines could then possibly protect against the corona virus.

Will masks be compulsory in autumn?
Lauterbach receives headwind for advance
However, Lauterbach is receiving headwind from the FDP for his push for the mask requirement.
Andrew Ullmann (59, FDP), health policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group, warns against reacting blindly to the new phase of the pandemic with old tools.
“Without adequate scientifically proven efficiency data, further government cuts make little sense, especially not in reserve.
Instead, the focus of the traffic light coalition must be placed on improved epidemiological COVID-19 data.
His party colleague and Federal Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann (44, FDP), sees it similarly: “I am in favor of us following the law.
That provides for an evaluation.”
