Released in November 2020, Sony's PS5 remains a rare commodity on the market.
Production is still idling, and supplying the various brands that sell it is proving complex.
Amazon is obviously one of the e-tailers who offer the PlayStation 5 to its customers.
Faced with very strong demand and still low stocks, the e-tailer reacted by deploying a purchase invitation system in the USA last Thursday.
Amazon therefore fights scalpers who loot PS5 stock
The principle of the system set up by Amazon in the United States is quite simple:
if you want to buy a PS5 on the online sales site, you must request an invitation from your account.
Once it is validated by the platform, you will receive a specific link which allows you to buy a PS5 without difficulty.
This device aims to fight against the automated and very aggressive purchase made by resellers, whose goal is to then sell their stocks of PS5 at prices higher than those applied by online sales platforms.
Scalpers, as they are called, use bots to make automatic purchases.
By using the invitation system, Amazon controls who actually wants to buy a console, and thus prevents all of its stock from falling into the hands of resellers.
A service soon to be deployed in Europe?
If this system proves effective across the Atlantic, it is possible that Amazon will decide to set it up in Europe, and therefore in France.
It can also be used for products other than the PS5: other game consoles, but also many computer components, are now facing the same shortage problem.
There would therefore be multiple uses for this principle of invitation to purchase.
