The Pope will visit L'Aquila on 28 August

The Pope will be on Sunday 28 August in L'Aquila to open the Holy Door and the Jubilee of Celestine V, in the Perdonanza of 2022. The program - communicated by the Vatican - provides for the departure of the Pope, by helicopter, at 8 am. (ANSA)


(ANSA) - VATICAN CITY, JUN 04 - The Pope will be on Sunday 28 August in L'Aquila to open the Holy Door and the Jubilee of Celestine V, in the Perdonanza of 2022.


    The program - communicated by the Vatican - foresees the departure of the Pope, by helicopter , at 8. Landing at the GranSasso Stadium in L'Aquila is scheduled for 8.25.

Then the Pope will be transferred by car to Piazza Duomo where he will be welcomed by Card.


   Giuseppe Petrocchi, archbishop of L'Aquila, Marco Marsilio, President of the Abruzzo Region, the prefect Cinzia Teresa Torraco, the mayor Pierluigi Biondi.


    Accompanied by card.

Petrocchi, the Pope will enter Duom for a private visit.

At 9.15 am, in the churchyard of the Cathedral, Pope Francis will address a greeting to the families of the victims, to the authorities and to the citizens present in the square.

At the end, the transfer by car to the Basilica of Santa Mariain Collemaggio is foreseen, where at 10 he will celebrate Mass at which the Angelus will be recited.

Then the opening of the Holy Door will take place.


    At 12.30 Pope Francis will take leave of the local authorities who welcomed him and will transfer by car to the GranSasso Stadium.

The helicopter is scheduled to take off at 12.45 pm and will land in the Vatican at 1.15 pm.
