David Rosenthal, a shawarma lover, crosses all the slow-moving lanes of Herzliya, just to get to one of the best shawarmas he has ever eaten - shawarma charom on Sokolov Street, enter the full review

I did not think that I would find one of the best shawarms in the country here

Herzliya's Shawarma Sarum proves that even without being too prominent and without PR, it is possible to produce a wonderful nose that will make you want to come back again and again, even if you do not live in the area.

Ascends from Ayalon on the ramp to Herzliya Merkaz, passes 100 meters - and boom.

Another 100 yards, another boom and so on and so forth.

In some library around the globe is hidden the unofficial record book of the Guinness competitor, in which the Herzliya-Raanana bloc is crowned as the undisputed king of the slowdown in the world.

Data that rise to the top numbers 70 deceleration lanes per inhabitant, other data indicate that it is 1,000 (the numbers are completely invented, of course, in practice it is much more).

In fact, a recent report indicates that a delegation from the Herzliya Council visited the Formula 1 race track in Monaco and recommended installing deceleration lanes.

After all, the guys there travel a little fast.

If you survived this physical upheaval without concussions and without the chassis of the vehicle shouting save and you arrived safely, you can meet the Sokolov Strip in the center of Herzliya.

Just like the street bearing the same name in nearby Ramat Hasharon and Holon, here too there is a nice, rich and clean commercial center in relation to other major city centers.

It is doubtful whether Nahum Sokolov, president of the World Zionist Organization and the most important journalist established in Israel, knew that the main legacy that would remain of his work in the coastal plain area on the Sharon border were falafel stalls, dress shops and explosions sold from the heart.

On the other hand, I know for a fact that I would like this to be my legacy.

"Listen, open a nice hummus in Rosenthal."

Is there a worthy commemoration of this?

Last week

The food - reasonable, the price - is bearable, so why did I like this place anyway?

Real fun.

The intention of visiting Herzliya was to jump into a famous and esteemed shawarma.

On the way there, right on the corner of the street, I met an acquaintance who distracted me from the original idea.

"Go a few hundred yards more, to Sarom."

I was debating, after all it is not easy to change plans.

And yet, a recommendation from locals should be worth gold.

Of course his life from that moment on depends on braking, for if he knocks me down I do not take prisoners.

No one will mess with a subject so close to my heart.

So I made my way up the street and came to Shawarma Sarum.

This is the place to clarify in order to avoid confusion: there is a Sarom restaurant on Berl Katzenelson Street, which serves a wider menu that includes a variety of dishes from Yemeni cuisine, and there is the Shawarma Tsarom, under the same ownership, in Sokolov - a small stall with very limited options.

On the weight of "ugly, ugly but pilot", here it is "small, small, but with three wheels".

And as every person should do from the dawn of history, when there is a chicken, turkey and lamb / veal choose the latter option.

Well, the guy who recommended me, get HH (Photo: David Rosenthal)

I almost never take a nap, but this time I went out of my way and ordered (48 shekels).

I do not know what led me to the decision, but as one who does not make many successful choices in his life, this time I can be proud of my intuition.

Sarum, as mentioned, is a Yemeni restaurant.

Therefore, his lapa is not exactly a classic lapa, but more of a hybrid between a lapa and a loaf and it comes out no less than M-V-S-L-M - the softness of the loaf with the familiar taste of the lapa, a perfect blend of texture between airiness and density, without The over-dough that mainly characterizes the last bites.

And yes, the meat is also excellent.

Made just right, not too greasy, fun and blends well with the pita that envelops it.

I did not think the day would come when I would announce that Herzliya has one of the best shawarms in the area between Hadera and Gedera, but Sarom proved that even without being too prominent and without PR (all 60 reviews on Google), you can produce a wonderful nose that will make you want to come back again and again, even if you do not live In the area.

As good as it was on my heart I made my way to the car, and thought of the main problem with this whole story: go finish your nose, get in the car and cross all the deceleration lanes on the way.
