Anyone who swears by pre-baked rolls in the morning often prepares them in their home oven.
But there is a time- and cost-saving alternative.
NRW – Whether electricity, gas or food: the Ukraine war is making many things more expensive at the moment.
But with a few tricks, consumers can save money.
This is not only particularly easy when washing hands or boiling water, but also when heating up rolls.

Household tip: Bread rolls do not have to be baked in the oven
If you want to avoid going to a nearby bakery in the morning, you can also use pre-baked rolls, which mostly scored “good” in the Stiftung Warentest.
They are not very expensive, provided they are airtight and packed in protective gas, they can be kept for up to three months and prepared quickly within a few minutes (more life hacks on RUHR24).
Many roll lovers, for whom pre-baked rolls are part of their morning breakfast, prepare them in the oven.
But what many people don't know is that baking rolls in the oven is inefficient, reports RUHR24.
Never bake rolls in the oven - other devices are better
With larger quantities, preparation in the oven makes sense, but less so with a small number of rolls, since ovens consume a relatively large amount of electricity.
Instead, there are significantly cheaper and even time-saving alternatives for a smaller breakfast.
Instead of preheating an oven and using a lot of energy, you can use your home toaster with a grid attachment.
If a high temperature level is selected, it is sufficient to heat the rolls on both sides on the attachment.
According to
Chip365
, depending on the performance of the device, with a power of 1000 watts, this method can save around a fifth of the energy compared to heating in the oven.

Household tip: mini ovens, deep fryers and microwave ovens as alternatives
The time required for the process depends on the toaster model and the distance between the grid attachment and the heating wires.
The condition of the pre-baked rolls is just as important: if they are very chilled, the process takes longer than if they were put on the toaster without being chilled.
Edeka recommends first cutting open the pre-baked rolls and then placing them on the attachment.
This can save significantly more time.
Instead of a toaster, the supermarket giant also swears by mini ovens, which use less electricity than normal ovens and are more time-efficient, hot air fryers and microwaves, where bread rolls are usually not particularly crispy.
