A well-known chocolate manufacturer is increasing its prices - apparently for reasons of sustainability - which displeases the discounter Lidl.

A dispute between the companies now escalated.

The manufacturer has not been supplying chocolate to Lidl and its sister company Kaufland since May 2022, as an industry insider told the Lebensmittelzeitung.

Lidl and Kaufland: Popular chocolate brands are suddenly running out

There has been a dispute between Kaufland and the chocolate manufacturer Ritter Sport since the beginning of the year.

This can be seen from the ever-increasing vacancies on the shelves.

"The gaps in the shelves at Kaufland are just as obvious as the fact that Lidl does not yet have 100-gram bars from Ritter Sport in the new design," commented the German head of the Ritter Sport company, according to Lebensmittelzeitung, but without continuing the negotiations with Schwarz - to join a group.

A spokeswoman for Kaufland did not provide the newspaper with the details of the negotiation, but added that Kaufland offers "many alternative products".

However, a Lidl spokeswoman said that the discounter would continue to offer the Ritter Sport tables "in the fixed range".

However, she did not provide any information on the "internal processes".

In February 2022, however, it became known that there were also disputes between Edeka and Netto with the chocolate manufacturer Milka.

There were discrepancies due to delivery conditions.

However, the two companies are said to have resumed supply relationships in March.
