A two-year-old was attacked by a dog in a Hamburg apartment on Monday and critically injured.

The animal has now been euthanized, as reported by RTL and NDR.

"Rocky was put to sleep after his aggressive attack," RTL quotes a police spokesman as saying: Rocky was an Old English Bulldog mix.

This breed is not listed as "dangerous dogs" in the Hamburg Dogs Act.

Residents of an apartment building heard screams for help from an apartment on Whit Monday and informed the police, as the investigators announced on Tuesday.

The dog had apparently bitten on the child's head.

Police officers freed the child with the help of the mother and grandmother, who were also present.

According to the police, the little girl suffered life-threatening bite injuries on her head, and the child's condition is now said to be stable.

»The owner of this dog is actually the uncle of this two-year-old girl, which is the mother's brother.

He lives in Schleswig-Holstein," said a police spokeswoman for RTL.

He had apparently given the dog into the care of the family because he was abroad.

According to the reports, the police are now investigating the girl's mother and grandmother for negligent bodily harm.

According to NDR, Rocky the dog should have been conspicuous in the past.
