From prison, sex offender and former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has sued automaker Stellantis for $5 million over an accident.
In his lawsuit filed in a court in New York, Weinstein accuses the company of being seriously injured in the accident due to a malfunction in the brakes on his Jeep.
According to this, Weinstein was driving his car in New York State in August 2019 when a deer suddenly appeared in front of him.
The brakes should not have worked properly when trying to avoid the car, apparently the car overturned.
Weinstein apparently operated
The 70-year-old suffered "catastrophic and permanently debilitating injuries, as well as significant and enduring pain and suffering," according to the complaint.
Apparently he had to have an operation on his back.
Weinstein is now accusing Stellantis of negligence, among other things.
"We intend to vigorously defend our product against these claims," Stellantis said in a statement.
Weinstein was once one of the most important film producers in the USA.
In 2020 he was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault.
The 70-year-old is currently in a prison in the US state of California.
Weinstein faces another trial for alleged sex crimes from 2004 to 2013.
He is accused of, among other things, raping an Italian model in a Beverly Hills hotel in February 2013 and then sexually assaulting Lauren Young, a budding actress, in the bathroom of another hotel.
A total of five women raise allegations of abuse.
Weinstein denies the crime and pleads not guilty.
A total of around 90 women, including well-known actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek and Gwyneth Paltrow, have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment or violence.
The allegations came to light in autumn 2017, triggering the global #MeToo movement against sexual violence against women.
