Julia Garner is set to play Madonna in a biopic about the Queen of Pop

Julia Garner prevailed in the Madonna boot camp for the role of the Queen of Pop.

According to information from industry magazine Variety, the production company Universal has offered the actress from Inventing Anna the lead role in the planned biopic.

There has been speculation about the role for four months, and 28-year-old Garner was one of the favourites.

Twelve candidates were shortlisted and underwent an exceptionally tough casting.

Days of up to eleven hours had to be managed, and meetings with Madonna and her choreographers were on the agenda.

Florence Pugh ("Little Women") and "Euphoria" star Alexa Demie were also shortlisted.

The pop star is co-writing and directing the film about his life.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the legendary 1990 "Blond Ambition" tour played a central role in the film.

The dance and singing scenes, which in turn required extensive training, were correspondingly important.

Madonna is known and feared for her perfectionism.

Announcing the film, Madonna said she hopes to convey "the incredible journey that life has taken me as an artist, musician, dancer - a person trying to navigate this world.

The focus of this film will always be the music.

Julia Garner starred as a young criminal on the series »Ozark« and received two Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Ruth Langmore.

Most recently, she played the impostor Anna Sorokin in the Netflix miniseries »Inventing Anna« from producer Shonda Rhimes.
