The information to remember

A major legal operation.

This Wednesday morning, around 200 gendarmes took over the head office of the Orpea group in Puteaux, in the Hauts-de-Seine, as well as around twenty regional offices of the group throughout France.

The retirement home giant has been at the heart of the storm since the publication of the book

Les Fossoyeurs

, by Victor Castanet, which accuses it of institutional mistreatment and embezzlement of public funds.

These searches aim to "carry out checks" in the investigation opened after a report from the government sent in March to the Nanterre prosecutor's office.

This investigation was joined to other investigations, launched in February, for "forgery and use of forgery and violation of labor legislation by abusively resorting to fixed-term contracts".

In the wake of this announcement, Orpea shares fell by more than 5% on the Paris Stock Exchange.

In a completely different aspect, the former general manager of the Orpea group, Yves Le Masne has been heard freely since Tuesday morning as part of the investigation for "insider trading".

The former boss of retirement homes is suspected of having sold for more than 900,000 euros of action when he learned of the release of the book investigating the chaotic management of his group.

He has since been fired.
