Despite the hustle and bustle in Europe, Israelis are also choosing the low coast for this coming summer

The recent manpower reductions in the tourism industry are affecting the cancellation of thousands of flights around the world, but the low-cost carriers in the country are still thriving.

Israelis have realized that you do not need food, music, movies or "the best at home in the world" if there is a good price and availability, to vacation abroad. Summer 2022 will not be the same in the world

The recovery in air traffic from and to Israel surprises Ben Gurion Airport's management, airlines and travel agents. More cautious estimates spoke of 2026. The estimates of aviation authorities, airports and airlines were based on these estimates.

Compared to estimates made on the basis of commercial and economic models, North America, Europe and the Middle East behave quite differently. Demand in some places has returned to similar numbers as in the receiving months in 2019. Airports in the EU, UK, US and Canada have reached a point of insufficiency.

Thousands of flights have been canceled in the past week in the US, thousands more in the EU and UK. Passengers are required to arrive four hours before a flight for check-in. Those wishing to fly with luggage are asked "hotly recommended" to arrive with hand luggage only. Summer has just begun, the 2022 summer season will be recorded as the season of aerial and tourist chaos around the world

.

All the same reductions in manpower and infrastructure that have been made in the tourism industry.

Lack of staff at airports, airlines and hotels It is difficult to get maids and waiters.

The car rental companies that were actually bankrupt and had to sell their car inventory are now having a hard time getting new vehicles on weeks notice.

There is a worldwide shortage of electronic chips and car manufacturers are having a hard time satisfying the demand.

The Israeli public clearly prefers the low cost

I went through the report published by the Airports Authority for May 2022, and beyond the impressive increase in activity compared to the corresponding month in 2021, the data that jumped out before my eyes were the data of the low-cost carriers.

In May,

the

market share of low-cost companies was 27.85 percent

, compared to the three Israeli companies combined, whose combined market share was 29.89 percent. -

The figure is amazing:

1,553,205 passengers flew in companies defined as low-cost companies.

This is about 29 percent of all flights to and from Ben Gurion Airport. In first place is Rainier with 459,923 passengers, in second place Visair with almost 300,000 passengers, in third place EasyJet with 290,830 passengers, in fourth place Pegasus with 253,830 passengers and in fifth place Peli Dubai with 133,944 passengers Compared

to

the three Israeli airlines: El Al, Israir and Arkia

- a total of 1,632,176 million passengers since the beginning of the year and 29.5 percent of all traffic to and from Ben Gurion Airport.

The obvious conclusion from these data is that the Israeli public clearly prefers low-cost carriers to destinations to which they fly seven days a week.

As low-cost carriers add more lines, they will fill them at the expense of "regular" airlines.

These are cheap point-to-point flights.

No need for "the most at home in the world" if there is a good price and availability.

No need for food, a system of music and movies, chairs that can be moved back and a suitcase in the belly of the plane.

Finally, some useful tips for those who are planning flights this summer abroad

  • Pre-check your computer.

  • Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport three to three and a half hours before the scheduled flight date.

  • Try to fly from point to point and not on connection flights.

If you still decide on a connexion, then leave an interval of two hours between landing and a connecting flight and do not take luggage with you, only handbags and trolleys.

  • Be patient at the airports - there will be a big mess and you may find yourself with no connecting flights.

In

2022

we will no longer have a "normal summer".
