9-euro ticket: No bicycles on some trains – the railway operator comments

Because of the high demand for public transport, some train operators forbid taking bicycles with you.

Since the start of the 9-euro ticket, many trains have been overcrowded.

Action should now be taken against this.

Frankfurt – The Pentecost weekend was the first since the 9-euro ticket was introduced throughout Germany.

From June to August you can travel through Germany with the monthly pass.

This action is part of the government's relief package to give all citizens an alternative to the car, as fuel prices are constantly rising as a result of the Ukraine conflict.

The offer of the nine-euro ticket was accepted by many over the Pentecost weekend to take trips by train.

This led to overcrowding and delays on trains throughout the Federal Republic.

Sometimes there were also problems and complications in connection with taking bicycles with you.

Some train operators suspect that there will also be a high volume of public transport in the coming weekends.

Some therefore limit the carriage of bicycles.

9-euro ticket: Railway operators are now prohibiting the carriage of bicycles in advance

The train operator Metronom, for example, prohibits the carriage of bicycles in certain periods on the RE2 (Göttingen-Hannover-Uelzen) and RE4/RB41 (Bremen-Hamburg) routes.

Bikes may no longer be taken there from Friday from 3 p.m. to Sunday at 10 p.m.

After the chaotic Pentecost weekend, the company wants to act in advance: "We are now drawing the conclusions and creating a clear regulation from the outset," said Miriam Fehsenfeld, spokeswoman for the railway company in a statement.

As early as Pentecost, the carriage of bicycles at Metronom, Enno and Erixx in Lower Saxony was restricted - but initially only temporarily.

Up to and including June 6, bikes are not allowed to ride on the train.

There is also a major construction project on the Hamburg-Uelzen route of the RE3/RB31 line.

Bicycles can no longer be taken there either, as train traffic will be severely restricted.

"In this situation, we can simply no longer take bicycles with us," says Miriam Fehsenfeld, spokeswoman for the railway company.
