A woman and a child were injured in an act of violence at an elementary school in Esslingen near Stuttgart in the morning.
According to the police, the perpetrator has not yet been caught.
It is also not excluded that he is still on the school premises, said a police spokesman.
The police also use a helicopter for the large-scale operation.
Newspaper reports of severe stab wounds
According to the spokesman, children are currently being looked after in the school during the Baden-Württemberg Pentecost holidays.
However, it is not clear whether the two victims were attacked in or near the school in the morning and whether they belonged to holiday care.
According to the "Bild" newspaper, the man was armed with a knife.
The woman and a seven-year-old girl suffered severe stab wounds.
According to the spokesman, a motive for the crime is not yet known to the police.
