Lufthansa is canceling several hundred flights in the summer month of July.

The airline is already anticipating bottlenecks at security checks and long waiting times for passengers at check-in.

Munich - shock for vacationers.

Germany's largest airline, Lufthansa, and its subsidiary Eurowings are cutting their flight schedule in the holiday month of July due to staff shortages.

100 flights would be removed from the system within Germany and Europe at the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, reports

.

In July, the cancellations affected five percent of flights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Lufthansa subsidiaries Eurowings and Swiss are also apparently affected.

Specifically, several hundred flights are to be canceled at Eurowings in July, and at Swiss the flights for several connections from Germany to Zurich would be reduced.

Lufthansa: Passengers should be rebooked on other flights

The airline says that numerous measures have been implemented to ensure the stability of the flight plan.

Nevertheless, it is "foreseeable that due to the bottlenecks, the flight plans cannot be flown as hoped".

Passengers would be informed immediately and, if possible, rebooked on other Lufthansa or Eurowings flights.

Reason for the misery: Because of the corona pandemic, many employees in the aviation industry have looked for other jobs.

As a result, passenger control, aircraft handling and flight attendants are burdened with the current increase in flight volume.

Ralph Beisel, General Manager of the Airport Association ADV, recently pointed out that the service providers involved in handling passengers at all locations lacked around 20 percent ground staff compared to the time before Corona.

Lufthansa: Travel with little hand luggage and use online check-in

Lufthansa recommends passengers to be at the airport in good time during the upcoming holiday season and to use online check-in and check-in the evening before if possible.

In addition, passengers should limit their hand luggage to the bare essentials in order to avoid long waiting times at security checks.

As recently as December last year, the airline had to cancel thousands of flights for the Christmas season.

Many pilots had called in sick and the Omicron variants threw a spanner in the works for the passengers.

More and more Lufthansa customers are now complaining about canceled services and overloaded hotlines.
