A wave of creativity and beauty crosses Europe, calling everyone to the responsibility of building an inclusive and sustainable future: the New European Bauhaus - NEB International Festival opens today with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen who from Maxxi di Rome officially kicks off the event, scheduled from 9 to 12 June mainly in Brussels, but with over 300 events online and in attendance in all EU countries.

Inspired by the multidisciplinary approach of the Bauhaus art school, born in Germany in 1919, the NEB aims to involve architects and scientists, artists and entrepreneurs, designers and ordinary citizens to work together, forming a cohesive community in which there are no divisions between science, education, civic engagement, culture and technology.

A new awareness, reaffirmed today by von der Leyen, welcomed by the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini and by Giovanna Melandri, president of the Maxxi Foundation: "The role of the new Bauhaus is clear: we have reached the limit, we have taken more than we have given, now there must be a change of direction. We need a climate law, we need figures, evaluations, proofs that come from science, but with the European Green Deal there is a movement that comes from below and the soul is precisely the New European Bauhaus. From this festival I expect not only to celebrate ourselves, our many skills to be channeled into the New European Bauhaus, but also to look to the future ".

Hence the inevitable reference to the war: "Today there will be a meeting with the mayor of Mariupol and a Ukrainian architect to rebuild the

man is also a conviction of Minister Franceschini who, praising the work of the European Commission, affirmed that "we can and must do more together to bring culture to the center of the new vision of Europe, in which change occurs thanks to planning ".

And he added: "Culture offers understanding, dialogue, solution by contributing to environmental and social commitment. We need wisdom, which is why in Naples in June we will bring together all the European ministers of Culture to launch a new cooperation process together with the Member States. cultural".

It is no coincidence that the wind of change promised by the NEB in Italy passes precisely from the Maxxi, whose Piazza Alighiero Boetti today was colored by Brainforest by Pascale Marthine Tayou:

a large tree with many masks hanging from the branches, in the center of an ovoid fountain, which evokes the nature that blooms from the heart of the Eternal City, a sort of homage to the themes of the day.

In fact, within the next 4-5 years, the Capitoline museum has the Grande Maxxi in the pipeline, an "evolution project in which we want to concretize the cornerstones of the New European Bauhaus: with an investment of almost 40 million euros we will build a research center for urban regeneration projects, we will extend our borders and make artists, architects, scientists work together for the cities of the future ", explained President Melandri, recalling that today's inauguration is dedicated to" David Sassoli and his commitment as a deputy and as President of the European Parliament,
