Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil promises that the statutory retirement age will not be raised.

According to the German pension insurance , people who were

born after 1964

can usually

retire at the age of

67 .

If you want to retire earlier, you have to reckon with deductions.

According to the Deutsche Rentenversicherung, the age limit for the start of pension without deductions is generally raised to 65 years of age for the disability pension.

Due to the shortage of skilled workers, baby boomers and rising living costs, the German pension system is getting more and more into trouble.

Voices calling for an increase in the retirement age are getting louder.

But if Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil has his way, that is exactly what should not happen.

Heil's promise: "We have agreed in the coalition that we will not increase the statutory retirement age.

And nothing will change that.”

Hubertus Heil, Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, promises the Funke media group: "We have agreed in the coalition that we will not increase the statutory retirement age.

And nothing will change about that.” Most recently, economists called for an increase in the retirement age due to the very high inflation and rising costs.

The federal government's relief package should also help.

The idea that you should work in a steel mill or at the supermarket checkout, as a police officer or as a nurse up to the age of 70 can only be had by people who live in a completely different world.

“What I think is right is the flexible transition to retirement.

That's perfectly fine.

But the idea that you should work in a steel mill or at the supermarket checkout, as a police officer or as a nurse up to the age of 70 can only be had by people who live in a completely different world," said Heil.

Retirement age: work until 70?

A "phantom debate" according to Hubertus Heil

"I think it's a phantom debate to want or should work until 70.

This is a discussion that cannot be reconciled with the reality of life for many people in Germany," said Heil.

It remains to be seen how the federal government will then get the pension problem under control.

The retirement age in Germany is currently being gradually raised from 65 to 67 by 2029.
