In the US, Amazon is testing a new system for PlayStation 5 sales. It could soon be adopted in other countries as well.

Have you ever tried buying a PlayStation 5?

If so, then you probably didn't succeed and you know how difficult this endeavor is.

Since the market launch in November 2020, the console has only been available at irregular intervals and is usually sold out.

The PS5 is available from private sellers on some sales portals, but at outrageous exorbitant prices.

In order to put a stop to these resellers, many providers have introduced various measures.

So only one console per customer is given.

For some time now, only Prime customers have been able to order a PS5 from Amazon.

In the US, the shipping giant is now testing an additional restriction on PS5 sales: customers can only get the console via a personal invitation.

Buy PS5 from Amazon: In the USA only with a personal invitation link – soon also in Germany?

Sony started such an invitation system itself a while ago.

Through direct sales, customers can sign up

to purchase a PS5 by providing

their PlayStation ID .

The system works similarly at Amazon USA, as reported by the

TechCrunch

portal .

On the product page of the PS5 or the Xbox Series X there is a

"Request Invitation" field

that customers can use to express their interest.

Amazon then randomly selects people who have clicked on this field for the next distribution and sends personal invitation links.

Customers then have

72 hours

to confirm the purchase.

Interestingly

, however, this does not require an Amazon Prime account

.

Various factors are taken into account to ensure that they are genuine buyers, such as previous purchase history or when the account was created.

Amazon

explained to

TechCrunch that this measure is clearly directed against the resellers and gives those who really want to use the console a chance.

The invitation system will also be used in other countries in the future.
