Thirteen painted oak panels have come to the Louvre, on the top floor of the Richelieu wing, to fit between old Nordic paintings and those from French schools.
All come from the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon.
All date from the Renaissance except for a tortured Saint Vincent, a few years before the discovery of the New World.
It is due to one of the first great local masters whose name has been preserved in the annals, Nuno Gonçalves.
Finally, all of them come from Portuguese workshops run by artists who are sometimes anonymous but who were part of the King's House.
